Research shows 50–60% of men don’t have enough of the enzyme required to absorb topical minoxidil adequately through the scalp. That means for most guys foams, droppers, and sprays are a dead end—and that’s exactly why you might not be seeing real improvement.
Olsen et al. evaluated men using daily topical minoxidil for 5 years and found that hair growth peaked at 1 year followed by a slow, steady decline afterward. It has been estimated that 60% of male patients may not respond to topical minoxidil therapy due to decreased baseline levels of the sulfotransferase required to activate minoxidil to its active metabolite. In summary, daily application of topical 5% minoxidil monotherapy appears to be more effective than 2% minoxidil; its effectiveness is dependent on the concentration of sulfotransferase available within the hair follicle, and results take at least 6–8 weeks to appear.
Hair regrowth is dose-dependent, meaning the higher the dose, the greater the visible result. Locklab’s high-grade minoxidil is 400% stronger than most topicals and 50% stronger than most generic pills. This extra power has taken thousands of men from no regrowth—or little regrowth—to significant regrowth.

If you get a transplant, you’ll need to take medication too, or it will likely look even worse.Because, as hair loss continues with age, it will fall out around the transplanted hair in weird patterns. Eventually giving you a worse looking head of hair than just going bald naturally. The most famous example of a lost transplant is Joe Rogan, but we hear from men every day who underwent hair transplants without being told they’d still need medication.

Topicals containing finasteride and minoxidil together have a fatal flaw. The finasteride should be applied once per day for safety reasons. But the minoxidil—what actually regrows hair—needs to be applied twice. The FDA says to apply topical minoxidil twice-daily, in order to get the amount recommended for regrowth. So are 2-in-1 sprays a ruse to get you to buy something that sounds easier to use? Absolutely.

Supplements, shampoos, and peptides don’t work in any meaningful way for most people. 90% of men’s hair loss is genetic—male pattern baldness (MPB)—and only ~10% of men have nutrient deficiencies, stress, or other factors (called telogen effluvium) that natural remedies can help with. Companies often make claims that their products improve hair, but since the overwhelming majority of men have MPB, these products do little to nothing.

The only results photos from Nutrafol’s clinical study on their men’s product. To the average person it’d be hard to tell which photos are even before versus after.

Patient submitted results photos from men only taking Locklab for their hair. The difference between the before and after photos is clear.
It’s a common misconception that since dead follicles can’t produce hair, bald spots cannot be filled in. The truth is follicles can still be alive below the surface or so thin and wispy they look bald—but can still be regrown.
For example, John, Mike, and Joel here who were in their 50’s and 60’s when they started taking Locklab.

Your chances of regrowth vary based on several factors: how much hair you have, how long you’ve been bald, and most of all your sensitivity to the medication.
1) Check if the spot where you want to regrow hair is smooth and shiny—or if there are still little peach fuzz baby hairs there. Tiny hairs can mean your hair still has a chance to fill in and thicken, and for the neighboring hairs to regrow. This won’t mean your hair will return to its high school glory, but improvement (sometimes huge improvement) is possible.
2) How long has that spot been bald? 2 years? 5 years? 10 years? There’s no exact number of years before hope is lost, but the more recently you’ve lost the hair in an area, the higher the chance of regrowth.
3) To understand this medication’s potential for you, compare photos of your hair to our before and after photos. This lets you see what other guys who may have similar patterns of baldness as you have achieved through medication alone.

Many years in the future, after starting Locklab, we believe you’ll look in the mirror and remember that you should be bald—but Locklab changed your fate.
But remember, the goal of Locklab isn’t absolutely perfect hair, just absolutely better hair.
So here’s to having more hair than nature intended.
